Event Description:
Conceived by the City of Portland, this ride is all about Portland. Riders meet at Portland State University; enjoy a cup of Portland roasted coffee and a continental breakfast before heading to the city's outskirts. The mostly-flat 25 and 50 and routes, and the more challenging 100-mile century take advantage of the Portland city pathways, bike lanes, and lesser roads that ring the Rose City.
Regular on-course rest stops will offer great food and snacks, drinks, and mechanical support. SAG vehicles will assure that nobody gets stranded.
The finish line offers an unparalleled local gourmet meal:
fresh wild salmon fillets ;
local, organic asparagus and salad;
rice pilaf with hazelnuts and cranberries;
marionberry cobbler a la mode served with a cold microbrew or two.
You'll go home with plenty of Portland favorites in your over-flowing goodie bag, including beer, coffee, a Clif bar and coupons.
The Portland Century benefits Hands on Portland, a non-profit group that values volunteer service as a powerful force for change and believes that service raises awareness of community needs and provides a platform for action. |
