Event Description: Come see what it feels like to stand inches away from a bicycle peloton speeding past you at thirty miles per hour. Sixty riders per race will be jostling for position as they perilously zoom up and down Mississippi Avenue on a 2 way race course. This year's North Portland bicycle race, Laughing Planet's Cirque du Cycling Criterium is one of three great events compounding the Cirque du Cycling experience - also for your viewing pleasure the Cirque du Cycling Freak Bike Parade or bring your kids to the Cirque Family Ride. Be a superhero! Come make the magic happen! Volunteers are needed! Many shifts to choose from and many different positions - help with setting up the race course, be a Carney and help with Parade support, be a ride ambassador for the Family Ride from SEI, there's something for everyone, come join in the fun. Volunteers get a free t-shirt and free food and drink. |

Cirque du Cycling Criterium – June 14th 2008
Course Marshall
Job Description: See the racers up close and ensure the safety of the racers and spectators on the course! Assist in course safe course crossings when no
racers are coming, give spectators and residents a heads up the racers are coming,
and keep people off the racecourse. This is a serious position that requires a volunteer that is very comfortable communicating with the public, is alert and can multitask.
Time: 4:30-7:15pm. Must be able to commit to position and
location for the whole 2.75 hours. Bring water; wear comfortable shoes and gloves
if available. Volunteers should meet at the Info tent on the corner of Failing and Mississippi promptly at 4:30.
Barricade Truck Transport Crew
Job Description: Get the course ready for the racers! Help the organizers prep the course by dropping street barricades on sidewalks to be put into place when the streets close.
Locations: Meet at the Info tent on the corner of Failing and Mississippi promptly at 10am. We will congregate there and then disburse to set up on the course.
Time: 10 am - 1 pm. Must be able to lift and carry large items up to 50lbs. Bring gloves and sturdy shoes.
Course Taping Team
Job Description: See the course magically come to life! Help the organizers set-up barricade tape along the course and move the barricades from the sidewalk into the road for street closure promptly at 5pm.
Locations: Meet at the Info tent on the corner of Failing and Mississippi promptly at noon. We will congregate there and then disburse to set up on the course.
Time: 12-4:30pm.
Race Set-up Crew
Job Description: Help set up the course!
Locations: Meet at the Info tent on the corner of Failing and Mississippi promptly at 1pm. We will congregate there and then disburse to set up on the course.
Time: 1-5 pm. Must be able to lift and carry large items up to 50lbs. Must be able to commit to position for at least 3 hours. Bring gloves and sturdy shoes.
Family Ride Ambassadors
Job Description: Take a ride up to Peninsula Park before the race begins! Family Ride Ambassadors will help organize the start of the ride as well as ride the 3.1 mile course to ensure safety.
Locations: Meet at SEI on the corner of Failing and Kerby at noon
Time: 12-3:30pm. Must wear a helmet.
Carnies - Parade Support Ambassadors
Job Description: Be a part of the coolest bike parade ever! Help check in bikes/floats, organize the parade order, and walk the parade to ensure an even flow of parade participants.
Locations: Meet at the corner of Fremont and Mississippi by the Tire swint.
Time: 1:30-4:30 pm.Carnies should be outgoing and enthusiatic about being a part of the parade.
Clean Up Crew
Job Description: Be part of the clean up crew that helps make the event disappear in the night like it never happened! Help the weary organizers clean up from this great event by bringing in barricades, cones, and course logistic equipment.
Locations: Meet at at the Info tent on the corner of Failing and Mississippi promptly at 7 pm. We will congregate there and then disburse to the course.
Time: 7-9 pm. It would be helpful to be able to lift and carry large items up to 50lbs. Bring gloves and sturdy shoes. If available, please bring headlamp.
