Event Description:
A fully supported bike ride on Saturday, June 12, 2010, starting at the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center in The Dalles. It extends 19.25 miles along the Historic Columbia River Highway and HCRH State Trail to the west to the Senator Mark O. Hatfield West Trailhead, just east of Hood River. This route, with its world-class scenery, is a combination of historic highway that is open to motor vehicles, with very low traffic, and the HCRH State Trail that is open only to hikers and bicyclists. The HCRH State Trail is paved and most of the trail is 16 feet in width. This is an out and back route of 38.5 miles. This ride will be supported with water stops, snacks, mechanical support and a SAG wagon. The total elevation gain for this ride is 2,974 feet.
Experience the panoramic view at Rowena Crest, visit the grounds of the historic Mayerdale Estate and travel through the restored Mosier Twin Tunnels.

However, you are still welcome to do the ride!
We will have “Day-of” registration at the ride start at the Gorge Discovery Center, on Discovery Drive, which is 1.5 miles west of I-84 exit 82 on Old US 30.
Day of event registration is $40 per rider.
The course opens at 7 AM and closes at 4 PM. Participants will be required to sign our waiver and release form at packet pickup. Riders under 18 years of age need to be accompanied on the ride by a registered adult and their waiver and release form must be signed by a parent or legal guardian. Participants must wear a CPSC, ANSI or Snell approved helmet. Maps with cue sheet and elevation chart will be provided at packet pickup.
Friends of the Historic Columbia River Highway's vision is to restore and preserve the existing drivable portions of the historic highway to their splendid 1920s appearance and link drivable portions with pedestrian and bicycle accessible connections, creating a continuous route through the Columbia River Gorge.
