Event Description:
THE RIDE:
Welcome to the Barlow Trail Century, the best one-day ride in Oregon! Bring a friend or two and join us Sunday, June 25th, for this epic adventure. Family-friendly Paesano's Cedarville Park in Gresham, Oregon is the Start/Finish area for both 40 & 100 mile routes. {Create your own "metric century (60 miles) if you want, by starting from Roslyn Lake}. ALL routes are held on marvelously low, to very-low, traffic roads and should be an enjoyable experience for everyone.

The 40 & 100 mile adventures begin on a unique rails-to-trails bike path providing a great warm-up. Rural country roads then lead to an exhilarating descent down to Dodge Park and the Sandy River. Then, enjoy a enjoy a short, but stiff, climb up to Roslyn Lake Park. You can relax here in the cool morning air at this first of three scheduled rest stops. Delcious gourmet bakery goods and fresh summer fruits, along with free expert mechanical support, will be available at every rest stop. The 40-mile riders go their separate way from here, continuing on around the lake and back to Paesano's.

Leaving Rosyln Lake, full-century and optional "metric century" riders begin their climb up “The Devil’s Backbone!” Coming off the ridge, you'll whip down a blazing descent and drop into "Little Switzerland." Wind through lush green pasturelands of the upper Sandy River valley on Marmot Road, then spin lightly over the freshly paved Barlow Trail Road. Connect with LoloPass Road, the gateway to the Mt. Hood Wilderness Area, where the real climbing begins.

Test your resolve like the pioneers before you, laboring up the flanks of the great mountain on this old historic Oregon Trail route. Be sure to look for the stunning views of Mt. Hood along the hearty 8.5-mile climb (average grade 8-10%). Crest the saddle at 3,500 feet and you'll find a stash of provisions nestled in the woods to fuel your ride home (Lolo Pass, Rest Stop III). Then, barrel down for miles and miles as you and your posse hightail it to the post-ride party like barn sour horses!

THE FESTIVITIES:
At the finish party, Laughing Planet serves up scrumptious organic burritos and fresh fruit smoothies blended especially to rejuvenate you. Or, you could choose to quaff a cold one while you kick back in the park and enjoying live music brought to you by the Six Finger Band. For a few extra greenbacks, you can enjoy a 10 min massage from local therapists who will be on-hand to work out any kinks you may have developed. Parents are encouraged to bring the kids to the park as Paesano’s has plenty of open space and a playground under the Cedars near the picnic tables.
